Are You Wearing The Right Sunglasses For Your Face Shape

We all know how important it is to have the right haircut for our face shape can be–but many don’t know that the same idea applies to our sunglasses! So whether you’re under the blazing sun, or just adding that element of effortless cool to your ensemble, here’s a little guide to picking the perfect pair of sunglasses for your face shape! Because not all sunglasses are made to suit everyone (no shade).

Round-shaped Face

Round faces or ‘baby-faces’ are characterised by a wide hairline, full cheekbones and a rounded chin with little or no prominent angles. But fret not because people with round faces also tend to look younger and can afford to pull off more youthful styles!

If you’ve got a round face (like me) opt for square or rectangular frames! The angular lines in the sunglasses will help to provide more definition by “adding” angles to your face.

That being said, rounder frames aren’t totally out of bounds. The trick is to stick to thin wire frames so that the glasses don’t over accentuate your rounder features. These blue-tinted cat-eye sunglasses by Oliver Peoples would be the perfect choice for you if you want to experiment with sunglasses that are a little less angular but at the same time still provide your face with some definition.

Square-shaped Face

Square-shaped faces are typically defined by a relatively straight hairline and a well-chiselled jawline, which is absolutely to die for.  The width and length on your face are also typically proportional, with minimal curves to your cheekbones.

People with such face shapes should look for frames with rounded edges for a softer approach to complement your well-defined angles.

We’re really digging these pink sunnies from Ray-bans which are literally La Vie En Rose — ‘seeing life in rose-tinted glasses’ depicting a state of joy. Set in a thin gold rim, these frames feel so feminine and playful!

Heart-shaped Face

Those with a heart-shaped face tend to have a wider hairline, temple, and a narrower chin. If you have a heart-shaped face, you probably have killer cheekbones as well — think Reese Witherspoon or Scarlett Johansson.

To all the people with heart-shaped faces, we recommend aviators or cat-eye frames as their wider tops and tapered bottoms, help to draw more attention to your stunning cheekbones. To balance the widths of your face, you can also opt for thinner and lighter framed glasses!

We love these Gucci aviators for its subtle yet iconic red and green stripes at the rims, giving that perfect laid-back 70’s vibe.

Oval-shaped face

People with an oval-shaped face typically have a narrow forehead, jawline and chin. If you’ve got an oval face shape, consider yourself lucky! Your face is basically balanced and proportionate and can pull off any the widest range of shapes. This opens up the doors to many different sunglass styles. From trendy cat-eyes to classic wayfarers and even the latest sleek pair of slim shades. The sunglass world is literally your oyster.

Sunglasses have the power to make or break your look so it’s important to choose frames that will compliment your features the best! We hope that you have found this article useful and here’s to your next sunnies selfie.
