About three years ago I was celebrating Hari Raya in the highest heels I’d ever worn (four inches high). Ten minutes into walking, I swore that I’d never wear such high heels ever again unless my life depended on it.
Since then I’ve become a flat(ter) footwear covert opting for slip-ons, sneakers, or kitten heels – with slightly heeled slip-ons being my go-to. They’re effortlessly feminine, trendy and versatile (if you buy the right ones). Of course, there’s just so many options out there so I’ve separated and picked out a few must-have styles for the season.
Wearing A/W’s top trend this way is perfect for those who love the print, but are worried about looking OTT in a fully ferocious ensemble. These shoes add a little edge to your step and a exude a sense of feminine power–just enough. Let the shoes shine and wear your prints with neutral tops and bottoms–we like a black top and ripped white jeans combo for this!
The Little Black Slip-On
If you don’t already have a pair of these shoe closet staples, what have you been wearing all this time? Like a trusty little LBD, these slip-ons are dressy, easy comfortable, and can match anything!
We’ve recently added this limited edition pair of black embellished slides to our shoe collection, and we love how it’s dressy enough for events, but casual enough for running out to grab lunch! This pair features one of the winning designs from the Bata Young Designer Challenge that took place earlier this year and is handcrafted with the best of Italian craftsmanship. For a smart casual look that oozes modern Parisian chic, wear these slides with a black polka-dotted blouse and white linen pants.
I love fall for the autumnal hues and the cozy vibe it brings, but if there’s anything to love most about fall, it’s the festive season! Whether you’re prepping for a night out or looking to add a pop of colour to your daily ensemble, these slip-ons are the ones to go for. Rock this navy Mango pair with a sequin shirt dress and silver-toned jewellery for an easy but elegant party outfit that’ll get you through the rest of this year in comfort and style.
Checks are arguably the year’s most worn print – so you know it won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. Whether it’s a tartan, houndstooth, plaid or a good old checkered print, this design is always great for adding an element of sophistication to your year-end outfits. When styling, go for neutrals tops and bottoms or pick out hues from your shoe – like the mustard yellow threading in the River Island pair for the perfect colour coordinated look!
Crisp & white
Dainty, chic, and pointed to elongate your figure, a crisp white pair of slip-ons are the scene-stealing sisters of the versatile black slip-on. For a full look-at-me moment this holiday season, pop on that white or monochrome dress you’ve been keeping in your closet and swipe on a bold red lippie!
If you’d rather a more natural, fresh look, go with an always luxe linen maxi dress, rattan bag and gold hoop earrings! We particularly love the play on textures seen on these Cult Gaia mules which would look great next to any basket style bag.
Whether you’re heading for a seaside vacation or just rockin’ the easy-breezy look, raffia, woven or espadrilles slip-ons are what you’ll want. These woven raffia slides from Carrie Forbes radiates natural vibes that capture the lax, wind-in-your-hair essence of a beachside holiday. Complete this look with a scarf-print maxi dress that’s both on trend for fall, and great for warm weather!
There’s a different shoe style for every personality, so go with the ones that speak to yours the most! I hope you picked up a few styling tips and found at least one pair of shoes which tugged at your heartstrings (and your pursestrings)! Lots of love,
