New York Fashion Week With Style Theory
As a recovering shopaholic, I struggle with making space for more clothes in my wardrobe (which is currently bursting at the seams). From the multitude of dresses that I’ve bought on impulse to my basic white tops that all look kind of similar yet totally different, it’s really hard to find a balance between keeping my current closet minimal and constantly wanting new clothes.
So instead of splurging on a new cold-weather wardrobe for my recent New York Fashion Week (NYFW) trip (and adding on to my pile of clothes I only wear once or twice), I decided to turn to Style Theory–a clothing rental service that offers more than 20,000 designer outfits!
Packing for NYFW was fun but also daunting for me because I knew I had to look my best–I mean, this is fashion week after all! I wanted to find 3 very different pieces from Style Theory so that I could experiment with new and trendy styles without having to actually commit to purchasing them. For the first look, I wanted to try my hand at the print-on-print trend! Since I wanted to keep my luggage light, I chose this piece that features 2 prints in one dress. I love how the mixed print isn’t too loud but has that extra oomph that makes for a head-turning look.
I decided to pair this dress with some knee-high velvet boots, a yellow sling bag and some orange-tinted shades to get into the whole autumnal mood this season.
Basic Button-Down Dress
Next, I picked a simple red button down dress, which was great for cafe-hopping in New York! I love how the dress has a very fun and casual vibe, while still having a retro-inspired elegance to it with the red and white polka dotted detail. This was possibly my favourite piece because I could totally see myself wearing this back in Singapore’s warm weather as well!
Monochrome Menswear Outfit
Finally, one of my more fashion-week-worthy looks! This menswear-inspired monochrome outfit has two of the year’s biggest trends in one! Instead of going with a plain taupe blazer to match my pants, I wanted to feature a classic print like checks to add a little flair to this outfit. Coloured checkered pieces are also really big this fall, and though I love to rock a colourful piece sometimes, it’s not always the most versatile thing to keep in your closet, so I loved being able to play with this trend by renting this blazer from Style Theory!
