At-Home Spa | Treat Yourself With These DIY Spa Essentials

The holiday season is fast approaching so it’s time to give yourself a pat on the back for making it through three quarters of the year! Holidays are all about taking a moment to relax and treat yourself to a pamper session!

Whether you’re jet-setting or just loafing (like me) this holiday season, our guide to creating your own DIY spa treatment is here to up your unwinding game! Keep reading to find out how you can start creating your very own DIY spa.

Set The Mood

When it comes to a DIY spa, setting the mood is always the first and most important step to making your space feel ‘spa-worthy’. You could light up some candles and play some soothing music in the background to enhance the overall atmosphere of the place to sort of trick yourself that you are in a real spa. Pro-tip: Spotify has a number of spa playlists that are perfect for creating your own DIY spa experience!

If you have a bathtub around, you could also sprinkle some flower petals in some warm water to make things more extravagant.

 

Cleanse Your Face

Before you begin any facial treatment, it’s always important to start off with a cleansed face. I’ve been using Glossier’s Milky Jelly Cleanser recently and I’m loving it! The cleanser doesn’t foam or lather, but the gel-like consistency makes it feel really luxurious and soothing to the skin.

This cleanser’s also perfect for people who have dry or combination skin! It’s gentle, so it doesn’t strip the skin of its natural moisture, while still getting rid off all the dirt and grime from the day.

 

Use Hot Towels

Instead of using a plain old towel or tissue to dry your face, you could swap it with a hot towel to luxe things up. Applying a hot towel to the face can also help open up the pores on your face as well, prepping them for the products you will be applying next.

To make your spa even more soothing, you could also drip a few drops of essential oils on your towel. My personal favourite scents are lavender or lemongrass as I find that these scents help to calm my senses and take my mind off anything that’s stressing me out!

 

Apply A Face Mask

I am a huge sucker when it comes to clay mask because of my oily and acne-prone skin. Whenever I put on a clay mask, I like to visualise all the gross makeup residue and sebum clogged in my pores being absorbed, leaving my pores fresh clean!

Of course, everyone’s skin type is different and there are plenty of face masks out there to suit your individual skin needs. But if you’re looking for an effective and gentle clay mask, I highly recommend the Purity Made Simple Pore Extractor by Philosophy–it’s my personal favourite when it comes to keeping my breakouts at bay.

Alternatively, if you suffer from dehydrated skin and are looking for a more hydrating mask, you could try Bioderma’s Hydrabio Masque Moisturising Mask to deliver intense hydration to it. For a more boujee feel, you could even cut two slices of cucumber and place them on your eyes reduce to any swelling or puffiness.

 

Indulge In A Nice Long Bath

Scents play a huge part in influencing our mood, so to get the most out of your DIY spa, invest in a body wash that’s been packed with essential oils. I’ve recently tried out this new Bergamot and Geranium Body Wash by Bare for Bare it’s totally changed my shower time.

I really like how the product is all-natural with no added parabens, silicone or artificial colouring, which is vital if we want to avoid adding unnecessary chemicals to our skin. Exfoliate

I personally like to exfoliate my body once a month–not only does it help to make my skin feel softer, it also increases circulation and stimulates the lymphatic system (your body’s waste elimination network) to decrease inflammation!

If you’re looking for a good body scrub to do just that, I recommend this Lotus Body Scrub by Banyan Tree. This body scrub not only contains Aloe Vera Powder which soothes and moisturises your skin, but it also smells absolutely amazing!

 

Moisturise

Now that you’ve exfoliated, it’s the perfect time to moisturise! Moisturising your body after a shower or bath is very important because hot water tends to strip off any natural moisture or oils on our skin, leaving it parched or dry.

An all-natural moisturiser or lotion to add to your DIY spa routine is definitely Bare for Bare’s Lemongrass and Ginger Body Lotion. I like how the natural scent is really invigorating and refreshing, unlike regular lotions that have a heavier perfumed scent.

 

Put On A Bathrobe

There’s nothing quite like slipping into a soft and cosy bathrobe to top off your DIY spa experience. A good bathrobe has the power to instantly make everything more luxurious– as if I’ve just stepped out of Dua Lipa’s New Rules music video.

To end your spa session, you could give yourself a manicure or enjoy a glass of wine while watching your favourite show to prepare yourself for a good night’s sleep.

 

Above all the fancy robes and face masks, self-pampering is not just about feeling luxurious. It’s important to slow down and re-charge, and this holiday season is the perfect time to start!
