A month ago, I got to be part of Reebok’s #PerfectNever campaign. We went to the Maldives to embark on a 3D2N fitness retreat (sounds physically daunting already, right?) hosted by Singapore’s Reebok Ambassador, Liv Lo. Liv brought us through a yoga session during sunrise, a body combat class by the beach, and HIIT workout overlooking the Maldivian sunset. Throughout the course of the retreat, we also shared our #PerfectNever stories: stories that tell of how we face pressure to live up to people’s expectations. These pressures can come from all sorts of categories – fitness, body image, work, personal relationships, family, etc. I got a little bit emotional during the video sharing, so pardon my croaky voice. A major takeaway from the trip was resilience: although all of us – even you reading this included – face pressure to be this “perfect” ideal on a daily basis, we shouldn’t feel inadequate. Yes, attaining and pursuing perfection should exist to push us to be better, but we shouldn’t feel like we have to be defined by these expectations.
