Benefit POREfessional Makeover Event

Two Saturdays ago, I was kindly invited by Benefit Cosmetics (Singapore) to be one of their guest bloggers for their POREfessional Makeover summit held at TANGS Orchard. My task as a guest blogger, was to help give a beauty makeover to a special Benefit fan. Needless to say, I was pretty scared to conduct a makeover for someone. Like, what if I screw up? Or what if I make her look like a drag queen with so much makeup? :/
But thankfully it was a happy ending for both me and my makeover “victim”! Here’s a photographic journal of what went down during the POREfessional summit.

Upon arrival, we were served with beautiful sweet-smelling cupcakes from Twelve Cupcakes, and ice cold fruit punch in classy cocktail glasses. How can any event go wrong with cupcakes and fruit punch?

Me with the gorgeous beauty blogger Renee from Renee and I got paired to work together for this event (best team ever I might add *winks*). I was really happy to be paired up with Renee – I first got to know her when we met at the Zardoze runway show at the Audi Fashion Festival 2013, so to catch up with each other was really nice (: Like all great teams, we decided to show off our team power by colour-coordinating our clothes. We both kept it simple, wearing black and white. Benefit also gave us our very own pretty Tifanny-coloured spygal trench coat to wear for the event, which made us look super professional (I needed it haha) and chic! Team RenDrea is now ready to take on any makeover challenge, come at us, bruh!

From left: Jolene and Joyce from The Tinsel Rack, me, and Renee. I met Joyce and Jolene beforehand for lunch at Ginza Barin at Ion Orchard – which I have to declare, is my most favourite katsu-don place ever.

Before the makeover process began, all the guest bloggers and selected fans were ushered to the Benefit POREfessional booth set up outside TANGS Orchard. Just in case you are wondering what “The POREfessional” is, it is a pre-makeup primer that gives your skin a “silky” layer so that foundation is easier to apply on your skin. The smooth layer the POREfessional provides also ensures that your foundation covers your pores and spots better. I’ve been using the POREfessional for the past week to cover my pre-menstrual acne (sigh!), and i’m so thankful to Benefit for gifting me with it, or else I’ll be going around with dreaded spots all over my face.

The POREfessional summit was a grand-scaled affair, with pastel-coloured Vespas and real-life Benefit  POREfessional spygals coming out of nowhere to perform a spy-themed flash mob!

After the fun and games outside, it was time to get serious inside. Renee and I were tasked to makeover  Benefit fans Aminah and Cherlyn. Given a time frame of 60 minutes to makeover our two Benefit fans, Renee and I decided to be strategic about our task delegation by taking one girl each, with me makeover-ing Aminah, and Renee beautifying Cherlyn up! Here are the before and after pictures:

As you can tell, both Renee and I have translated our “less is more” mantra onto our Benefit fans. Throughout the makeover process, I was worried I would be applying too much makeup on Aminah, because I personally don’t like it when a lot of makeup is applied on my face. Thankfully, Aminah and I communicated about our likes and dislikes, and I made sure to let her review her makeup every now and then to make sure she likes what’s applied on her face! So lesson of the day: communication is key when you’re applying makeup on someone. Let them see review their face every now and then so they are comfortable with what you are applying on them.

Also, prior to applying makeup on Aminah, I applied Benefit’s range of skincare products on her face. To the uninitiated, Benefit DOES have a skincare section! From facial wash, makeup remover, toner, to moisturisers and hydrating mists, Benefit is not only about making you look good, they make your skin feel good as well! I reckon Aminah’s face looks really radiant with all the pre-makeup products we’ve applied on her face!

Behind the scenes images:

Okay I know I don’t look as professional as Renee, but this is my first time! So… support please!

As I’m not exactly a pro when it comes to applying eyeshadow, Renee helped me with Aminah’s eye makeup. Renee used a plum colour as she felt it complemented Aminah’s skin, and the colour made Aminah’s gorgeous eyes stand out! So glad to have Renee as my partner in crime! :’)
